Shahbagh protest rolls into 15th day

FROM SHAHBAGH: The protesters at Shahbagh intersection continue their sit-in for the fifteen straight day demanding death penalty of all war criminals including Quader Mollah.

The day`s activities started at about 6:15 am with national anthem.

No lack of enthusiasm was seen among the demonstrators after passing 14 days of their protest demanding capital punishment of war criminals.

People from all walks of life are thronging the venue of protest demo join the ongoing non-stop agitation that started on February 5 hours after the International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah to life term imprisonment for his war crimes.

Talking about the cold weather Mozzamel Hossain, one of the protesters, said, “Our freedom fighters freed the country in spite of so much hardships and adverse situations. They didn’t bother about cold, rain nor about food and our pain is small in comparison to their.”

He said, “I have here for the past seven days and will stay till our demand are met.”

Earlier on February 14, millions of people above their individuals and group identities, ‘Prajanmo Chattar, Shahbagh’ lit candles raising voice demanding death penalty to all war criminals.

On February 8, the nation saw the biggest gathering in the decades as thousands of people from all walks of life thronged Shahbagh intersection to call for capital punishment for the war criminals.

Tens of thousands of people took oath to boycott Jamaat and Shibir and also vowed to continue the movement from Teknaf to Tetulia until execution of those Razakar and Al-Badr members who committed crimes against humanity like mass killing and rape in 1971.
