DHAKA : The High Court Wednesday asked the authorities concerned to stop the construction works of illegal building in Cox’s Bazar of Destiny Group within 24 hours.
The court asked deputy commissioner, police super of the district of district, mayor and officer-in-charge of Sadar Thana to comply the order.
Apart from this, the court summoned project engineer Majharul Islam to appear before it on May 5 to explain the matter.
A HC bench comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Jahangir Hossain passed the order in response to a writ petition filed as public interest litigation.
Besides, the court also issued a rule upon the government to explain within three weeks why administration inaction in protecting environment “should not be declared illegal”.
Environment secretary, environment department director general, director (monitoring) and assistant director, deputy commissioner, police super, mayor and Sadar Thana OC were made the respondents to the rule.
Advocate Monjil Morshed moved for the writ petitioner while Assistant Attorney General Yadia Jaman stood for the state side.
