DHAKA : Pickets vandalized some 12 vehicles and torched two in the city during countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by a combined opposition 18-pary alliance led by BNP, for the third consecutive day on Tuesday.
Police said Chhatra Dal activists brought out a procession at Mohakhali at around 10am. At the time, a group of pickets, led by Titumir College Chhatra Dal president Shahin, vandalized a minibus and three CNG-run auto-rickshaws in city’s Mohakhali area in the morning.
In another incident, witnesses said some opposition men led Dhaka City Swechhasebak Dal (South) joint convener Nazrul Islam brought out a pro-hartal procession in Malibagh Kachabazar area.
At the time, demonstrators vandalized four vehicles, including bus and Laguna, spreading a wave of panic among people in the area.
Later, pickets left the spot after members of police and RAB forces rushed in.
Witnesses said picketers vandalized one passenger bus, one taxi cab and two CNG run auto rickshaws in capital’s Mahakhali area.
Besides, picketers set fire to two buses around in city’s Karwan Bazar and Agargaon area , spreading a wave of panic among the people.
