‘Nipah virus’ kills child in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: Another child died from Nipah encephalitis at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Shihab, 4, of Dangurhuda village in Chuadanga.

Deceased’s family members said Shihab had come to visit his maternal grandparent’s house in Deipura area of the district.

Later, he suddenly fell sick after having green plum from the tree near the house on Sunday.

Sources said he was rushed to Chuadanga Government Hospital and later shifted to RMCH where he died around 8:30pm.

On February 8, Nipah virus claimed two more lives at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), raising the death toll to seven so far from previous month.
