DHAKA: Senior Minister of State at the United Kingdom (UK) Foreign and Commonwealth Office Baroness Warsi on Monday said her country supports the ongoing war crimes trial of Bangladesh.
She came up with the observation while inaugurating new Visa project at UK Visa Center in capital’s Gulshan.
Baroness Warsi said UK wants continuation of ongoing trial of war criminals in Bangladesh and it must be transparent and acceptable.
However she said UK is always against death penalty.
Over next general election of Bangladesh, she added UK assisted the election of 2008 which was free and fair, and hoped next election will also be fair.
Earlier in the day, Baroness Warsi arrived here. She is scheduled to call on the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, and the Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia.
The minister will promote business links with Bangladesh and officially open the new prime time visa service.
The UK government is determined to increase bilateral trade and, with that in mind, the minister will explore with businessmen and experts from a range of organizations how to increase trade and investment and the role it can play to support further economic growth.
