A motorbike which had no identity was driven by a policeman near Gulisthan yesterday. It means the motorbike had no registration number by which it could be identified in case of any incidents either positive or negative. The number plate was just showing a word ‘Police’ instead of showing any identification number.
The law says, as per I know, in our country any vehicle (irrespective of size) if runs on the roads then it must be registered with BRTC (BangladeshRoad Transport Corporation). BRTC provides each vehicle an identification number when it completes the registration process. We see here and there in our country that the policemen are driving motorbikes which are not registered and do not have any registration number at the name plate.
Actually the registration for a vehicle is necessary mainly for some reasons. First of all, govt. can easily find out the total number of vehicles which are running in this country. Secondly and the most important one is, by the registration process each vehicle enlisted with a specific owner and it is very much necessary to have an owner for each vehicle. So, in case of any incidents if or accidents occurs with a vehicle, then anyone will be able to find out the owner of that vehicle.
We are getting the news of accidents in the newspapers daily. Road accidents are taking so many lives. Some are being injured by the accident with vehicles on the road. Accidents have no prior notice. It can occur here and there anytime with any lives by various types of human being.
So, the policeman who was driving that motorbike if commit any accident then who would take the responsibility and who would take the blame. I am talking about the ‘responsibility’ which is very much needed in case of any emergency. The responsibilities with those types of vehicle that has the name plate of ‘Police’ instead of any registration number. Is the law only for the general people? Are the policemen are free from the law? If a motorcycle commit any accident and kill someone on the road with that ‘Police’ name plate, then to whom can we blame?, the police man?, or the whole police force?, because that motorcycle has not any legal owner.
