At least 30 people were killed and 16 others injured in yet another road accident on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway on Sunday morning (Dec 31).
Police said the accident occurred at Migaa about 10 kilometers from the Salgaa black spot when a bus collided head-on with a truck, reports the Hindu.
Rift Valley Traffic Police Chief Zero Arome told journalists that the accident occurred at 3am, with indications the bus may have had faulty breaks when it rammed on the truck.
“We have 30 dead and two are from the truck,” he said, “all the bodies have been removed from the wreckage and injured people taken to hospital.”
A three-year-old child was among the dead.
Those injured were being treated at the main Rift Valley hospital in Nakuru.
The bus belonging to Matunda sacco mainly operates from Kitale, Busia, Kakamega and other western Kenya destinations to Nairobi.
It was ferrying passengers from Busia to Nairobi when the accident occured, while the truck was heading to Eldoret from Nakuru, according to police.
Police said Sunday’s accident is the worst on that killer highway since the beginning of this month, with the death toll now over 100 on that stretch alone.
