Selim Osman wins N’ganj by-polls

NARAYANGANJ: Selim Osman from Jatiya Party won in Narayanganj-5 constituency by-election on Thursday.

According to the unofficial results from 140 polling centers, Selim Osman bagged 82, 856 votes while his nearest independent candidate SM Akram got 58,785 votes.

Presiding officers have stayed polling in one centre due to mayhem.

Earlier, voting in Narayanganj-5 constituency by-election ended peacefully in the afternoon amid tight security.

Voters started casting from 8:00am and continued till at 4:00pm at a stretch.

Four candidates contested in the by-polls as the constituency became vacant after the death of Jatiya Party MP Nasim Osman.

Nasim’s brother Selim Osman fought for the constituency from Jatiya Party, Shafiqul Islam Delwar from Krishak-Shramik Janata League and SM Akram and Mamun Sirajul Majid as independent candidates.
