‘Torture claim on Jisan baseless, ill-motivated’

DHAKA: Metropolitan Police’s detective unit denied the allegation of torturing college student Jisan over Ayaz murder.

Detective Branch (DB) Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam at a press conference arranged at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Center on Friday noon said that the allegation is baseless and ill-motivated.

He told the journalists there that a newspaper published that intentionally for their own interest.

The DB Joint Commissioner claimed there that Jisan, the accused is all okay yet now.

Earlier, allegation said that Dhanmondi police tortured college student Inzamamul Islam Jisan, 17, who was arrested in a murder case on June 9.

The barbarity caused serious infection in the youth's left leg, allegation added.

He was one of the accused of murder of schoolboy Md Ayaz Haq in the capital on that day.

A second-year student of Dhaka City College, Jisan was taken on nine days' remand from June 10 to 19 in two phases.

During the remand, Sub-inspector of Dhanmondi Police Station Sahidul Biswas and several other cops beat him up, gave electric shocks and repeatedly pierced his left leg with syringes, report added.
