Dhaka appoints new High Commissioner to India

DHAKA: The government has decided to appoint Ambassador Syed Muazzem Ali as the new High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India.

The disclosure came from a press release issued by external publicity wing of the foreign ministry on Sunday.

Ambassador Syed Muazzem Ali joined erstwhile Pakistan Foreign Service in 1968 through Central Superior Service Examination. On 4th August 1971, while working in the Pakistan Embassy in Washington D.C., he declared his allegiance to the Bangladesh Government in exile. Later, he set up Embassy of independent Bangladesh in Washington.

Syed Muazzem Ali, a career diplomat, served as Ambassador of Bangladesh in Bhutan, Iran and France.

He also worked at Bangladesh Missions in Washington, Warsaw, New Delhi and Jeddah in different capacities. He served as the Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh in 2001.

Ambassador Ali obtained his MSC in Zoology from the University of Dhaka.
