DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi would jointly inaugurate second border haat (market) in Kasba of Brahmanbaria through video conferencing during the latter’s visit to Dhaka next week.
Officials of Brahmanbaria district and Tripura’s Sepahijala district announced that opening of the haat would take place on June 6 or 7 as Foreign Ministries of both sides are yet to finalise modalities.
District officials of Brahmanbaria and Sepahijala who constitute ‘joint border haat management committee’ met at Kamalasagar, 20 km southwest of Agartala on Wednesday to discuss arrangements and made an on spot review of work.
The construction of market shed and infrastructure facilities at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crore almost completed baring a few minor works, said a senior official of Tripura Commerce and Industry Department, reports The Hindu.
Sepahijala Additional District Magistrate Dilip Kumar Chakma and his Brahmanbaria counterpart Nazma Begum informed that Indian traders from India and Bangladesh can transact 16 and 15 selected commodities respectively at the haat.
