SUBHAN (KUWAIT): A troop of more than five thousand army personnel has been working to rebuild Kuwait since the first gulf war.
Being divided in 10 contingents, these skilled troopers are working tirelessly to sweep land mines and to rebuild Kuwait in the heart of Mid East.
After the invasion of Iraq that triggered first gulf war, Bangladesh Army was deployed in Kuwait to protect her from further attack.
Since then the gallant soldiers of Bangladesh Army have been playing key role in protection of Kuwait sovereignty as well as the reconstruction of the war-torn country.
During the war, Iraq laid a huge number of land mines in different region of the country. Dividing Kuwait in six areas - Bangladesh, UK, US, France, Egypt and Pakistan troops were engaged in sweeping mines from their respective regions.
Later, it was found that the regions were not properly swept except the one of Bangladesh Army.
After signing a special protocol, Bangladesh Army got the charge of sweeping mines from five other sectors. It is no doubt recognition of efficiency and hard labor of the Bangladesh Army.
Right now, ten contingents of Bangladesh Army are working to carry out “Operation Reconstruction Kuwait” along with Kuwait Army. This is matter of prestige and honor for Bangladesh Army.
“Kuwait has always been reliant on the aptitude of Bangladesh Army for their dedication, hard work, courage, brilliance and skill,” said Bangladesh ambassador to Kuwait Major General (retd) Mohammad Ashab Uddin.
“In 2013, there were four thousand Bangladeshi army personnel working in Kuwait. It was increased to five thousands in 2015 and the number is gradually increasing. Another contingent will be included soon along with the previous 10 contingents,” the envoy added.
Brigadier General SM Shamim uz Zaman is leading the gallant contingents of Bangladesh Army from Bangladesh Military Command (BMC) headquarters based in Sobhan region of Kuwait.
By taking part in Kuwait’s development, Bangladesh Army has earned glory and honor. In the adverse and hostile weather of dessert, Bangladesh Army has proved their skill and earned respect for their dedication.
The Bangladesh envoy further said to Banglanews, “As an exemplary professional military officer, Brigadier General SM Shamim uz Zaman has touched a new milestone with his command”.
“Relation between the armed forces of two countries has reached to a new height of friendship. Visits of the army chiefs of both countries have made the relation stronger,” he added.
