Bangladesh, Kuwait sign 4 accords

DHAKA: Bangladesh and Kuwait on Wednesday afternoon (May 4) signed four agreements on development assistance.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Kuwait counterpart Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah were present during the signing at PMO in Dhaka.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu and Kuwait’s Education Minister Dr. Bader Hamad Al-Essa signed the first agreement on Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investment.

Later, home ministry senior secretary Dr. Mozammel Haque Khan and Kuwait’s deputy foreign minister Khaled Sulaiman Al-Jarallah signed an agreement on Mutual Exemption of Prior Entry Visa for holders of Diplomatic and Official and/or Special Passport.

The third agreement, signed by Prime Minister’s Office’s Armed Forces Division’s Principal Staff Officer Lt General Md. Mahfuzur Rahman and Kuwait’s deputy foreign minister Khaled Sulaiman Al-Jarallah, was on Military Fields of Training and Other areas.

The final accord was on a Loan agreement for financing the construction of Labukhali Bridge on Barisal-Patuakhali highway.

Additional Secretary (Administration and Middle East) of Economic Relations Division (ERD) Mahmuda Begum and Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) director general Abdul Wahab Al-Bader signed the agreement.

KFAED will provide a loan amounting to 15 million Kuwaiti Diner (KD) equivalents to $50 million under the agreement.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave a red carpet welcome to Kuwait premier at the PMO at 3:20pm.

Later, they hold a bilateral meeting in presence of delegates following a tête-à-tête at Shimul Hall for 15 minutes.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Foreign Minister AH Mahmud Ali, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and Prime Minister’s Energy Adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Principal Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, and State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid Bipu and State Minisetr for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam were present here as Bangladesh delegates.

Besides, Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, Education Minister Dr. Bader Hamad Al-Essa, Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Sulaiman Al-Jarallah, KFAED Director General Abdul Wahab Al-Bader and other high-ups were present as Kuwait delegates.

Kuwait premier Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah arrived in Bangladesh in a three-day visit on Tuesday afternoon (May 3).

He will leave the country in the afternoon on May 5 (Thursday).
