TANGAIL: Two minor girls were drowned in a pond at Baniara village in Mirzapur upazila of the district on Wednesday noon (June 21).

The deceased were identified as Mariam, 9, daughter of one Yasin Ali and her cousin Fatema, 8, daughter of Jamal Mia, both of them are hailing from same village.

Jamurki Union Parishad chairman Ali Ezaz Khan Chowdhury told Banglanews that the duo went for a bath in a nearby pond from house without acknowledging anyone. 

Fatema drowned first due to lack of swimming ability and Mariam drowned later trying to rescue her cousin. Neighbors found the floating body after search, he added.
