DHAKA: Finance Minister AMA Muhith and leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (FBCCI) have exchanged heated words over the new VAT law.

The hot talks took place at the 38th meeting of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city on Sunday noon (April 30).

FBCCI director Abu Motaleb initiated the debate, saying that the small and the medium businessmen will face losses if the new VAT law is implemented. The small and the medium businessmen import raw materials from India and China.

Abu Motaleb, also chairman of Bangladesh Plastic Packaging Association, further said that if the interest of the small and the medium businessmen is not protected, a stern movement will be waged on the streets.    

In reply, Muhith said, “It is not language of talks. It is the language of war. It is like threat. If you wage movement we will prevent it.”

NBR chairman Md Nazibur Rahman, FBCCI president Abdul Matlub Ahmed and leaders of different others business platform and organizations also attended the meeting.
