DSE, CSE end lower Tuesday, turnover rises

DHAKA:  Stocks ended lower on the bourses Tuesday (Mar 12), the third trading session of the week, with turnover increased from the previous session.

Turnover at the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the main bourse of the country, has reached at Tk 6,219.91 million today, marking a significant decrease from previous session’s Tk 5,068.44 million on Monday.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 8.38 points or 0.14 per cent to close at 5,682.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also declined 5.06 points or 0.38 per cent to close at 1,303.92.

However, the other index edged higher. The DS30 comprising blue chips rose over 14.88 points or 0.74 per cent to close at 2,013.75 points.

Of the issues traded on the DSE, 60 advanced, 161 declined and 24 remained unchanged.

British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Ltd was the most traded stocks with shares worth Tk 753.68 million changing hands.

British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Ltd was also the day's top gainer, posting a rise of 15.96 per cent while Emerald Oil Industries Ltd was the day's worst loser, posting a decline of 9.90 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed lower with CASPI, the Overall Share Index, declined 47.42 percent or 0.27 percent to close at 17,421 points.

Of the 261 issues traded on the DSE, 44 advanced, 197 declined and 20 remained unchanged on the port city bourse.

A sum of 4.71 million shares and mutual fund units has been traded, generating turnover of Tk 191.09 million.
