DHAKA: Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said Japan is keen to invest in gasoline engine car manufacturing industry in Bangladesh in joint partnership.

Besides, he also said, there is a great potential for investment in country’s electronics home appliances (electric household appliances) industry too.

The minister held a bilateral meeting with the Japanese ambassador Hiroyasu Izumi at the ministry on Tuesday (March 12).

The meeting discussed the issues of investment in the industrial sectors, technology transfer, technical support of Japan in the automobile industry, and other topics as well. 

The minister, after welcoming Japan’s interest in investing in the automobile industry, said Bangladeshi customers have considerable faith in Japanese brands like Toyota.

Japan's Honda Company has already set up Honda Motorcycles manufacturing factory in a joint venture with the BSEC under the Ministry of Industries.

The minister urged Japanese envoy to invest in Japanese brand motor vehicles industry, agricultural processing industries, leather goods and paper industries. 

Japanese envoy said they can avail themselves of Bangladeshi workforce through industrialization, because workers are found here at cheap cost.
