DHAKA: Country’s both the bourses -- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) --- witnessed sharp fall in early trade on Monday (Mar 18), the first trading session of the week as, Sunday was National Children’s Day.
Within first two hours of trading, the key index of the country's major bourse declined 47.37 point up while the Selective Category Index of the port city bourse shed 10.07 point.
DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 47.37 points or 0.83 percent to 5608 points at 12:20 pm.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also declined 9.92 points or 0.76 percent to stand at 1,282.90 points.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, shed over 4.05 points or 0.20 percent to reach at 2,019.60 points.
Turnover stands at Tk 2,319.41 million on the DSE, riding on BRAC Bank Limited and British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Limited.
BRAC Bank Limited dominated the turnover chart with shares worth Tk 190 million changing hands till then.
Of the issues traded till then, 25 advanced, 269 declined and 35 issues remained unchanged.
However, the port city bourse, the CSE, saw negative trend till then with its Selective Category Index - CSCX – declining 10.07 points or 0.79 percent to stand at 1256.71 also at 12:19 pm.
Of the 168 issues traded till then, 21 gained, 133 declined and 14 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 70.71 million.
