DHAKA: Bangladesh's per capita income rises to $1909, which was $1,751 in the last fiscal year, said Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday (March 19).

Meanwhile, Bangladesh's gross domestic product (GDP) growth would go up to 8.13 percent at the end of the 2018-19 fiscal year, exceeding all the previous records in the history of the country’s economy, he added.

The minister was talking to reporters after a meeting of Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec), with its chairman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

The Finance Minister said that the growth and per capita income have increased due to the improvement of overall financial condition of the country. Income is good in all sectors.

“Growth of industry, investment and remittance was good. The per capita income increased as the growth was satisfactory’.

“Last year where the per capita income was $ 1,751, it has now been $ 1,909. That means per capita income increased by 158 dollars in a year”, he added.

Planning minister MA Mannan was also present at the time.
