Stocks see fall in early trading

DHAKA: The prices of the shares on both bourses --Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) --witnessed negative trend in early trading on Monday (April 8) as cautious investors were on selling spree.

After first one and half hours of trading, DSEX, the key index of the country’s prime bourse, declined 49.14 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse lost 120.91 points at 12:14pm.

The DSEX, the benchmark index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 49.14 points or 0.90 per cent to stand at 5,384.75 points at 11:54am.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 14.33 points or 0.73 percent to reach at 1,928.42 points till then.

The DSE Shariah Index shed over 13.61 points or 1.08 percent to stand at 1,245.14 points at that time.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 2,278.74 million on DSE till filling of the report.

British American Tobaco Bangladesh Company Lt was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 446.18 million changing hands.

Of the issues traded till then, 38 advanced, 256 declined, and 40 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor. 

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also saw an downward trend till then with CASPI gaining 120.91 points or 0.72 percent to stand at 16,544.47 points, also at 12:14pm.

Of the 179 issues traded till then, 31 gained, 124 declined and 24 issues remained unchanged with Tk83.03 million in turnover.
