DSE, CSE continue losing streak

DHAKA: Stocks witnessed another downtrend session, extending the losing spell for third consecutive sessions in a row on Tuesday (May 14) amid excessive selling pressure by cautious investors. 

At the beginning of the day, Index started with a positive trend but started losing points and kept falling for the next two hours. It rebounded in the third hour but fell again.

At the close of day’s trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse went down by 29.91 points or 0.56 percent to reach                                      5,217.91 points. 

However, two other indices also ended lower. 

The DSE Shariah Index saw loss of 6.99 points or 0.57 percent to close at 1,203.36 points.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also shed over 10.88 points or 0.59 percent to finish at 1,825.51.

Of the issues traded, 76 gained, 219 declined and 52 remained unchanged. 

“At the end of the day, the index closed red at 5217.91 levels with
0.57% decrease from the previous day. All the large cap sectors showed negative movements,” said LankaBangla securities, in its daily market analysis. 

Shares worth Tk 2513.64 million changed hands at the DSE on the third trading session of this week.

Fortune Shoes Limited topped the turnover leaders with 41.05 lakh shares worth Tk 152.29 million traded.

Top five losers at prime bourse DSE at the end of day’s trading are RNSPIN, ARAMITCEM, VAMLRBBF, FAMILYTEX    and NLI1STMF.

The CSE overall share index, CASPI also declined 93.07 points or 0.57 percent to reach 15,962 points at the close Tuesday. 

Of the 223 issues traded, 52 advanced, 142 suffered loss and 29 remained unchanged.

The value of the traded issues was Tk 145.48 million.
