DHAKA: In a bid to compensate the loss of farmers, government has decided to buy 2.5 lakh tonnes of paddy at a cost of Tk 26 per kilogram.

Earlier, the government made a decision to buy 1.5 lakh tones of paddy at the same rate.

Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzak, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder and others briefed media in a joint press conference on Tuesday (June 11).

Agriculture Minister said: “Currently, we have 14 lakh tonnes of paddy in stock. If paddy price does not shoot up despite this initiative, the government will directly buy paddy from the marginalized farmers to make up for the loss.”
