3-day Gold tax fair kicks off June 23

DHAKA: A three-day gold tax fair will kick off in Dhaka on June 13, said Dilip Kumar Agarwala, general secretary of Bangladesh Jewellers Samity.

He said this while addressing a discussion meeting at Bailey Road officer’s club in the city on Wednesday (June 12) night.

Dilip Kumar Agarwala said the maiden Gold Fair of the country will be held at Hotel InterContinental in Dhaka on June 23-25.

The fairs will also be held in all divisional cities on June 24-25.

He said the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BAJUS) will jointly arrange the fairs aiming to help businesses declare their stock of undisclosed gold by June 30 next.

Seeking government help for jewelers, he said if land for Jewelry Village is allocated near Dhaka and a modern jewelry institute is constructed there, the jewelery industry will lead the world in the sector in the next 10 years.

According to the notification issued by National Borad of Revenue (NBR) on May 28, the NBR offered the opportunity to formalise undisclosed gold, diamond and silver by June 30, 2019.

Traders, including jewellers and dealers, will be able to legalise their undeclared precious metals by paying Tk 1,000 for per bhori (11.664 grams) gold and gold ornaments, Tk 6,000 per carat cut and polished diamond and Tk 50 per bhori silver.
