 Stocks end lower amid sale pressure

DHAKA: Stocks witnessed the losing streak in the opening session of the week Sunday (July 7) as investors exerted selling pressure on sector specific large-cap stocks.

Market analysts said the capital bourse of the country witnessed price correction today amid daylong profit booking selling frenzy.

After witnessing downward trend throughout the session, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 47.70 points or 0.88 per cent to settle at 5,333.

The two other indices also ended lower. 

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) fell 11.93 points or 0.96 percent to close at 1,221 and The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, lost 19.69 points or 1.03percent to finish at 1,890.38.

The daily trade turnover on Dhaka bourse remained Tk 4153.38 million which was Tk 10 billion in the previous day.

The market-cap of the DSE fell slightly to Tk 4,121 billion which was Tk 4,123 billion in the previous day.

“The market opened on negative note and the downward trend continued till end of the session without any halt as investors remained watchful ahead of upcoming earnings and corporate declarations from listed corporations. Moreover, BTRC partially blocked the bandwidth capacity of GP also weighed investors' sentiment which triggered the bourse to settle in red”, said EBl Securities, in its daily analysis.

The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 355 issues traded, 239 declined, 87 advanced and 27 issues remained unchanged on the DSE.

JMI Syringes and Medical Services Ltd dominated the turnover chart with shares worth nearly Tk 130:53 million changing hands, followed by Asian Tiger Sandhani Life Growth Fund and Runner Automobiles.  

CAPM BDBL Mutual Fund 01 dominated the gainers chart, posting a gain of 10 per cent gain while Global Insurance Company Ltd was the day’s worst loser, losing 7.64 per cent.

Port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) ended lower with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI –losing 136.36 points or 0.82 percent to finish at 16,333.

The losers beat the gainers as 162 issues closed lower, 78 ended higher and 25 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse traded shares and mutual fund units worth Tk 181.97 million in turnover.
