Cyclone Sitrang: Two women killed in Gopalganj

At least two women were killed due to the massive Cyclone Sitrang in Tungipara of Gopalganj on Monday (Oct 24) night.

The deceased was identified as Sharmin Begum, 25, wife of Rezaul Khar of Panchkahnia village, and Romecha Begum, 58, wife of Hannan Talukdar of Charpara village of Banshbari.

The incident took place in Tungipara upazila's Panchkahnia and Charpara villages of Banshbaria.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tungipara Police Station Muhammad Abul Mansoor confirmed the matter.

He said due to the impact of Cyclone Sitrang, around 9:30 PM, a palm tree uprooted into Rezaul Khar's house in Panchkahania village of Tungipara Upazila. Sharmin, who was inside the house, was crushed by a tree and died on the spot.

On the other hand, at around 8:30 pm, Romecha Begum died when a chambal tree fell on the house of Hannan Talukdar and crushed her, said the Officer-in-Charge.

Deputy Commissioner of Gopalganj Shahida Sultana said that Tk 25 thousand have been paid for the burial of the deceased. Apart from this, residences will be constructed for the victims.
