Police arrested five people for their alleged involvement in raping a woman who came to Dhaka from Jashore to find her husband and sons.

The arrestees are Billal Hossain, 25, Al Amin, 26, Sabuj, 26, Rasel, 24, and Shafiqul Islam, 26.

Tejgaon Division's deputy commissioner HM Azimul Huque was addressing at a press conference at his office in the capital on Sunday (Feb 5) afternoon.

He said they were arrested after conducting raids until Saturday starting from January 31.

Two rickshaws were recovered from their possession, he said, adding drives are also going on to arrest two more fugitive accused.

On January 25th night, the victim came to Dhaka alone from her village Jashore and reached Basila in Mohammadpur area. As her husband changed the house address, the woman did not find them and started looking for them at nearby areas. Being failed to find them, she later planned to go to Jashore by bus reaching Gabtali by a rickshaw.

Then she got on board a rickshaw. Taking advantage of the darkness of night, the rickshawpuller hurriedly took the woman to labourers' room at a tinshed of an under-construction building. Then they raped the woman one after another. Hearing her screaming, a security guard came forward to rescue her. Meantime, the rapists fled the building leaving the woman behind.
