MANIKGANJ: Three siblings died and two minors went missing after a boat capsized in Daulatpur upazila of Manikganj on Tuesday noon (Aug 4).

The deceased were identified as- Hanifa, 37, her sister Roksana, 30 and brother Reazul, 25. All of them were hailing from Abu Danga village under Zionpur union of the upazila.

Meanwhile, Hanufa’s daughter Mithila, 12, and Roksana’s son Shanto, 11 remain missing following the incident.

Daulatpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC, probe) Hasmat Ali confirmed the matter to Banglanews. 

He said: “The boat, carrying Hanufa and her family members, capsized in a water body in Charmastal area due to storm. The boatman managed to rescue Hanufa’s nephew Monir and husband Abdul Huq alive.”

“However, five others drowned following the boat capsize. Later bodies of Hanufa and her two siblings were recovered while two minors still remain missing,” he said.

A diving team of Fire Service is conducting an operation to rescue the missing children, the OC added.
