N95 mask scam: JMI Chairman Razzaq on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed JMI Group Chairman Abdur Razzaq on five-day remand in a case filed over supplying fake N-95 masks.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayes passed the order after investigation officer of the case Md Nurul Huda produced him before the court with five-day remand prayer.

Md Julfikar, general registration officer of ACC in court, confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Earlier in the day, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested JMI Group Chairman Abdur Razzaq from Dhaka’s Shegunbagicha area on charges of supplying fake N-95 masks.

ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said Razzaq was arrested right after ACC Integrated District Office-1 Deputy Director Md Nurul Huda filed a case against him and six other officials of Central Medical Store Depot (CMSD).

The case was filed over corruption allegations in purchasing masks, personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety materials for Covid-19.

Earlier on July 8, an ACC team, led by the organization’s director Mir Md Joynul Abedin Shibli, quizzed Razzaq over the allegations.
