A female student of Dhaka University (DU) reportedly committed suicide at her brother's rented house in Atgharia upazila of Pabna on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Faria Tabassum Rumpa, 20, daughter of Farid Uddin Mandal, hailing from Babulchara village at Sahapur union of Iswardi upazila.

She was a final year student of DU's English department.

Quoting family members, Firoz Kabir, additional superintendent of police (Ishwardi circle) in Pabna, said Rumpa went to visit her brother Wasimul Islam several days ago. She had a relationship with a boy but her family did not give consent to it and probably tried to arrange a marriage with someone else. 

Family said she committed suicide by hanging herself with a scarf over this disagreement, he said.

Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Pabna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the ASP added.
