Two smugglers held with snake venom worth Tk 9cr 

A team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) detained two people with snake venom worth Tk 9 crore in Gazipur.

Md Mamun Talukder, 51, chief of the smuggling racket, and his aide Mamun, 33, were detained in the drive, conducted in Kaliakoir upaizla on Wednesday night.

Sheikh Md Rezaul Haider, additional DIG of the Organized Crime Unit of CID, made the disclosure in a press conference held at CID's Malibagh headquarters on Thursday.

He said: "Trading of snake venom is not legal in Bangladesh. Smugglers have been using the country as a transit route of smuggling the venom."
  
Two large locker and six glass jars with different labels containing the venom were seized during the drive, he said.

The CID official also said that acting on a tip-off, a CID team arrested some members of the smuggling racket from Bason area in Gazipur on September 17 last. Later, they were sued.

While conducting investigation in this case, CID came to know that a number of big rackets are active in smuggling snake venom. In continuation of the investigation, CID conducted the drive on Wednesday and detained the duo.
