At least nine people were killed and dozens injured as two buses collided on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Dakshin Surma upazila of Sylhet on Friday morning.
The accident took place when a bus of Ena Express collided head-on with a bus of London Express in Rashidpur area around 6:30am.
Seven of deceased were identified as- Manju Mia, 38, son of late Manik Mia from Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet, bus helper Jahangir Hossain, 30, son of late Mansur Ali from the same area, supervisor Salman, 25, son of late Aliur Khan from Jagannatpur of Sunamganj, Dr Imran Khan Rumel, 48, son of Dr Amzad Khan from Ambaria upazila of Chuadanga, Nurul Amin, 5, son of Ali Haidar from Sarail of Brahmanbaria, Sagar, 19, son of late Abdul Khaleqe from Dhaka's Wari area, and Shah Kamal, 45, son of Abdur Rashid from Sylhet's Akhalia Natunbazar area.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Jotimoy Sarkar confirmed the information to Banglanews.
Quoting witnesses, he said four passengers died on the spot and around 50 more were injured in the accident. Of the injured, five others died withing hours.
All injured were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, the police official said, adding that the death toll may rise.
