Woman, granddaughter killed in Dhaka road crash Salma Begum (right) and Rinta

A woman and her granddaughter were killed and two others injured as a truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Rupnagar Beribadh area of capital’s Mirpur this morning.

The deceased were identified as Salma Begum and her 12-year-old granddaughter Rinta. They were residing in Adabore Balur Math area.

Sub-inspector (SI) of Rupnagar police station Lokman Hossain said the speedy truck hit the auto-rickshaw carrying the victims while they were going to Ashulia near Rupnagar Beribadh Pump at 6:00 am, leaving Rinta dead on the spot and three others, including her grandmother Salma and sister Rita, injured.

Later, Salma died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), he said.

The injured Rita and the CNG driver Khaleque were admitted to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), he also said.

The bodies were sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsies, the SI added.
