Cumilla perpetrators must face exemplary punishment: PM

Terming the incident of vandalizing temples in Cumilla "very unfortunate", Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said the perpetrators of the offence must face exemplary punishment.

She said: "Those who carry out such incidents will definitely be traced out as we did in the past. Exemplary punishment will be given to them irrespective of their religions so that none can dare to do so in future."

Sheikh Hasina made the caution while exchanging greetings with Hindu community leaders being connected virtually with the Dhakeshwari National Temple marking the Sharodia Durga Puja from her official Ganabhaban residence here.

She said, "Massive investigation is going on into the matter. We're getting much information (regarding the incident)."

The PM also said none will be allowed to damage the country’s religious peace and atmosphere of coexistence of people of all theological backgrounds.

Meanwhile, the government deployed BGB in different parts of the country to maintain law and order in the wake of tension triggered by desecration of holy Quran in Cumilla.
