Dr Md Matiur Rahman has been appointed director of the Sonali Bank Limited, a leading state-owned public commercial bank in Bangladesh.

The Ministry of Finance has made the appointment recently for a tenure of three years.  

Dr Md Matiur Rahman, who has adorned the post, is also a member of Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal, Dhaka.

Hailing from Muladi upazila of Barisal, Matiur Rahman obtained Bachelor’s in Finance (Honours) degree from Dhaka University. He stood first class first in Masters under Dhaka University. Later, he secured PhD degree from a prestigious university of the USA.

Md Matiur Rahman was imparted training on VAT and Customs issues at home and abroad. He is involved in various social welfare activities. He is general secretary of the Barisal Division Officers’ Association.
