People from various parts of the Earth on Monday (May 16) are set to experience the total eclipse effect that will give the moon a scarlet colour known as a Blood Moon.

But the first total lunar eclipse of 2022 will not be visible from Bangladesh as it will continue from 9:29am to 10:53am here, Inter-service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) earlier informed.

The eclipse is set to occur on May 15 and 16 2022 and will be a ‘Supermoon’ as well with the moon set to look bigger.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon, Earth and sun fall into alignment, with the moon passing through Earth's shadow, according to NASA.

When the moon passes through the darkest part of the Earth's shadow, called the umbra, it's known as a total lunar eclipse, the space agency said.

The moon will enter the penumbra at 7:30:48 am BST, which will be visible from the Africa, western Europe, Central and South America, and most of North America, notes the US space agency.

The moon will leave the penumbra at 12:52:18 pm BST.

According to NASA, the eastern half of the United States and all of South America will have the opportunity to see every stage of the lunar eclipse.

If you are unable to watch the eclipse from your area due to any reason, you can watch the same live by visiting the official NASA website. NASA will also be live-streaming the event on its social media platforms and the official YouTube Channel.
