As this is not the time for hiking the prices of power and gas, the attempt would be a suicidal decision, said the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI).
FBCCI president Md Jashim Uddin said: “At this time, due to the price hike of electricity and gas the possibility of loss will increase.”
He made the remarks on Sunday in a press conference organised at the Federation Bhaban in Motijheel in the capital.
Top business leaders of the country were present at the press conference at that time.
Jashim Uddin said that production costs have multiplied in the wake of the pandemic and this is having a negative effect.
FBCCI president also claimed that such proposals for increasing gas and electricity prices have been made to force the government into an uncomfortable situation.
Earlier on May 18, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) recommended hiking bulk electricity price by 57.83%.
The recommendation was made during a day-long public hearing on the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) proposal to hike bulk electricity tariffs by 66%.
