Bangladesh Bank (BB) further has reduced the value of the Taka against the US dollar.
The exchange rate of per US dollar was fixed at Tk 88 increasing TK 0.40 on Monday, May 23.
Sources said the dollar price increased in order to discourage unnecessary import due to severe crisis of dollar in the market and also to give benefits at exchange rate of remittance and export earnings.
The central bank fixed the exchange rate of US dollar at Tk 86 by increasing Tk 0.20 at the beginning of January. Later on March 23, the dollar price was Tk 86.20.
In May of last year, per dollar was being sold at Tk 84.80 in the inter-bank. That time dollar price was increased by Tk 1.90.
The import has been increased after Covid-19 pandemic due to rise of economic activities. At the same time, the prices of imported goods have increased. Also, the import cost has increased.
