Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested Ashraful Ahsan Zitu, a student, for allegedly killing his teacher by a cricket stump at Ashulia of Dhaka, from Sreepur of Gazipur.  

The teacher succumbed to his injuries on Monday after he was allegedly hit with a cricket stump by a student of his institution in Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital.

The deceased was Utpal Kumar Sarkar, a lecturer of political science at Haji Yunus Ali School and College in Ashulia.

Utpal Kumar, also chairman of the college’s disciplinary committee, came under the attack on Saturday as he warned the student not to harass girls, said Asim Kumar, brother of the deceased.

Earlier today, a Dhaka court placed Md Uzzal, father of Zitu, on five-day remand in the case lodged over the murder of Utpal Kumar Sarkar. 

Dhaka Judicial Magistrate Sheikh Mujahidul Islam passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand.

Police arrested Uzzal from Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia last night.
