Teacher murder: Jitu on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court today (June 30) placed Ashraful Islam Jitu on a five-day remand in the case filed on charge of beating teacher Utpal Kumar Sarkar to death in Savar of Ashulia.

Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Rajib Hasan issued the order after the investigating officer of the case Sub-Inspector (SI) of Ashulia Police Station Emdadul Haque had produced Jitu before the court with a 10-day remand plea.

Additional Public Prosecutor of the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court Anwarul Kabir Babul confirmed the matter.

On Wednesday night, RAB arrested Jitu, the main accused in the murder case, from Gazipur. He was later handed over to Ashulia police station.

Earlier, student Jitu reportedly attacked teacher Utpal with a wooden stump from behind while girls playing cricket at Haji Yunus Ali College on June 25 at noon.

Utpal was then rushed to a hospital where he died while undergoing treatment on June 26.

Asim Kumar Sarkar, brother of the deceased, filed the case with Ashulia Police Station on that day.
