SC grants Qazi Anwar's successors' plea over copyright order

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court granted a leave to appeal petition filed by the successors of author and publisher Qazi Anwar Hussain against a High Court order that granted copyright of 260 books of the "Masud Rana Series" and 50 books of "Kuasha Series" to ghostwriter Sheikh Abdul Hakim.

The three-member apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique issued the order.

"The Appellate Division granted a leave to appeal petition filed by the two sons and a grand-daughter of Kazi Anwar Hossain, The apex court ordered to stay the activities on the decision given by Registrar of the Bangladesh Copyright Office on June 14, 2020. It also asked to maintain a status quo on selling of the books," said Advocate Hamidul Misbah, who along with Advocate Murad Reza moved the plea before the court.

Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan and Md Iftabul Kamal took part in the hearing for Bangladesh Copyright Office.

The High Court on December 13, 2021, upheld the order of Bangladesh Copyright Office. It also came up with some observations on that day.
