UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet Jeria is to make the first visit on Sunday (August 14) as a rights chief to Bangladesh for four days.
During her visit to Dhaka, she will discuss with various representatives of both the government and private sector. Besides, she will also visit Rohingya refugee camps at Cox's Bazar.
Apart from that, the UN rights chief is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other ministers.
On August 10, nine international human rights organizations urged her to pressurise the government to improve the human rights situation in Bangladesh during her visit.
They demanded that Michele Bachelet should publicly call for an immediate end to serious abuses including extrajudicial killings, torture, and enforced disappearances during her upcoming visit to Bangladesh.
