BRAHMANBARIA: Traffic movement on Dhaka-Sylhet highway has been suspended for 18 hours for a Bailey bridge installation on the Titas river at Shahbajpur in Sarail upazila Friday.

As per previous announcement, the movement of vehicles on Dhaka-Habiganj-Moulvibabzar-Sylhet-Jjaflong-Tamabil highway has been halted from 6:00am

The highway will be opened to traffic after 12:00am midnight after renovation work of the bridge completed, said sources concerned.

Sources from Brahmanbaria road and highway Department (RHD) said Sylhet-bound small vehicles from Dhaka were asked to use Sarail-Nasirnagar road and Chandura narrow road that crosses Brahmanbaria-Akhaura-Bijoynagar upazilas.

But restriction has been imposed on plying heavy vehicles though the connecting roads.

Brahmanbaria RHD executive engineer Shaymal Ranjon Bhattachariya told banglanews that the two 20-meter pillars of the Titas Bridge on the Titas river at Shahbajpur has been decapitated. For renovation, a Bailey bridge is being installed from Friday morning.

For this renovation work, traffic movement on Dhaka-Sylhet highway has been suspended for 18 hours since 6:00am, he added.
