Operation Ripple 24: 2 militants killed, 4 surrender

DHAKA: Two militants, a woman and a minor, were killed in separate blasts and four others surrender during an anti-militant police raid, Operation Ripple 24, at Ashkona of Dakkhin Khan in Dhaka on Saturday (December 24).

Of the deceased militants, the minor was identified as Afif Qadri Arif, 14. The woman was identified as the wife of a militant Sumon.

Of the four militants surrendered, two are women and two minors. They surrendered a pistol and six rounds of bullets.
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted the raid.

Earlier, acting on tip-off a team of CTTC unit cordoned off a house, Surjo Villa, in the area from around 2:00 am.

After being sure about the presence of militants in the house, the law enforcers asked them to surrender. Four of them surrendered but three did not.

Later, the CTTC members started the drive formally from 12:30 pm. During the drive, Sumon’s wife detonated a suicide vest that she was wearing under her burkha and another blast killed Afif Qadri Arif.

The third one who sustained injuries during a blast was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

CTTC unit chief M Monirul Islam said the body of the female militant will be shifted after an autopsy while the body of Afif will be shifted later as there could be grenades and ammunitions in the room.
He further said a bomb disposal unit will begin their work on Sunday (December 25).

Meanwhile, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and IGP AKM Shahidul Hoque visited the spot around 3:15 pm. Later, they briefed the journalists about the drive.

Both the minister and IGP termed the drive as a success.
