DHAKA: Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism will construct a 34919 square-meter high-quality international terminal building at Osmani International Airport, Sylhet.
The expenditure was estimated at Tk 2,459 crore for the project that will include construction of cargo building, control tower, parking, taxiway and important infrastructures etc.
This decision was taken to meet the growing demand in line with the increase of passengers and cargo transportations at the airport.
“Osmani Airport will be of international standards. We’ll do everything that we’re required to do,” said Mizanur Rahman, additional secretary (planning) of Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
“Sylhet has got a large number of London-bound passengers. Now, passengers are kept waiting at Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka. Then, flight starts from Dhaka to London. However, with the construction of terminal building, there will be direct flight from Sylhet to London. It’s the demand of Sylhetis,” Mizanur Rahman added.
