PANCHAGARH: Bangladesh railway will launch a new train service with only three stoppages on the Dhaka-Panchagarh route prior to the upcoming Eid-ul Fitr.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the train from Gonobhaban through video conferencing on May 25.
The train will have only three stoppages at Parbatipur, Dinajpur and Thakurgaon, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon told reporters at a press conference at the railway station on Wednesday (May 15).
The prime minister named the non-stop train “Panchagarh Express’ with new carriages imported from Indonesia.
Earlier in April, PM Sheikh Hasina inaugurated a nonstop intercity train -- “Bonolota Express” -- on Dhaka-Rajshahi route last month, aiming to boost rail connectivity with the northern district
Railway ministry sources said two trains on this route ‘two trains -- Drutojan and Ekota Express started in November last year.
The high-speed train will be running on the 639-kilometre route with only three stoppages between Dhaka and Panchagarh. The train will reach Parbatipur without any stoppage.
The fare of Panchagarh Express was set at Tk 550. The cost of a “Snigdha” seat in the air-conditioned coaches of the new train is set at Tk 1,035 and air-conditioned cabin 1,260.
During the inauguration of 'Rail Service Apps' at Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital on April 28, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon revealed the introduction of this new non-stop train on Dhaka-Panchagarh route.
