DHAKA: Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader said BNP is actually opposing the celebration programmes of Mujib Year in the name of protesting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming Dhaka visit.
He was addressing a joint meeting between the secretaries of Awami league and its associate bodies’ leaders and activists at the party headquarters on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.
Quader, also the general secretary of AL, said: “There is a blood tie between Bangladesh and India due to liberation war in 1971. State heads of different countries, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are set to visit Dhaka to join the Mujib Year celebration programme. The celebration will not be meaningful without India.
But BNP does not like this initiative and opposes the celebration of Mujib Year, he added.
A communal force is becoming active on the eve of Mujib Year to hinder the celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Quader claimed.
Besides, the AL leader urged their party leaders and activists not to do anything excess over the celebration programmes of Mujib Year.
