Budget FY24: Tk 37,052cr proposed to deal with climate change

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today (June 1) proposed an allocation of Taka 37,052 crore to deal with climate change impacts in the country.

He made the proposal while placing the proposed national budget for fiscal 2023-24 in the Jatiya Sangsad here.

In his budget speech, Kamal said in addition to climate finance efforts from international sources, Bangladesh is tracking the climate change-focused expenditures in its public finance management and assessing further financing needs.

“Currently, we are tagging climate change-related budget allocations and actual expenditures of 25 ministries/divisions having climate actions. In fiscal 2023-24, climate related allocation is Taka 37,052 crore,” he said.

In addition, the finance minister said, while formulating Annual Development Programme (ADP) and allocating budgets and monitoring implementation, a process is underway to embed climate change.

“This is making the process of adopting and implementing information-based policies and plans easier,” he added.
