Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Tuesday (October 17) claimed that about 40 million people of Bangladesh enjoy a lifestyle akin to Europeans, as they have the capacity to access and afford quality products.

He made the remark at a function held at the International Convention City Bashundhara in Dhaka today. 

As the purchasing power of a large number of citizens is 'like the people of Europe' in the country, the commerce minister urged the traders to ensure European quality while making furniture for them.

“Our goal is to increase the average per capita income of the country's people from 2,800 dollars to 12,500 dollars by 2040, which will be the same per capita income as Australia,” the minister added.
