Five officials and staff members of Bangladesh Oil, Gas, and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) were suspended for their involvement in vandalizing the office premises.
Petrobangla confirmed the suspensions on Tuesday through an official statement.
The suspended individuals include Deputy General Managers Md Tarequl Islam and Md Abdul Jalil, Planning Strategy Manager Md Fazlul Haque, Engineering Manager Mohammad Saifuddin, and Senior Assistant Md Nazrul Islam.
The attack occurred at the PetroBangla headquarters in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, involving employees from both PetroBangla and Titas Gas. At least five people were injured in the incident. PetroBangla stated that disciplinary action was taken after analyzing CCTV footage.
Petrobangla Chairman Janendra Nath Sarkar alleged that some Titas employees demanded that one of their own be promoted to Managing Director, despite none being on the top seniority list. He also highlighted that corruption allegations surround some individuals, which could be fueling the unrest.
“We have informed the police and military. Strict measures will be taken against those who breach discipline,” the chairman said, reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption.
