Indo-Bangla JWG first meeting on Mar 12-13

DHAKA: The two-day long first meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Fisheries Cooperation between India and Bangladesh will be held on 12-13 March in Dhaka.

The disclosure came from a press release of Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Monday.               

The Joint Working Group on Fisheries was formed for coordinating and monitoring the activities envisaged in the ‘Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the Field of Fisheries’ which was signed during the visit of the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Dhaka in September, 2011.

The Indian delegation is headed by Dr Raja Sekhar Vundru, Joint Secretary (Fisheries), Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture, and the Bangladesh delegation is headed by M Anisur Rahman, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.

The Joint Working Group would be discussed specific issues concerning India and Bangladesh such as management of Hilsa and other transboundary species;  collaborative research programmes in the field of aquaculture and fisheries resource management; exchange of visit and skill development of the relevant personnel.
